Tired of going to the same old bars in Montreal? Wiverside, which opened the doors to its giant inflatable igloo on December 10, offers a unique (and super Canadian) nightlife experience because it’s made from real ice.

Between ice cream furniture, festive drinks and a magical entrance full of fairy lights, Hiverside – which you might call Riverside St-Henri when not frozen – has turned into a true winter wonderland. .

“The cold winds of winter froze Riverside, the lush greenery became enveloped in ice and snow. Among the frozen landscapes of the southwest and of the Lachine Canal, a winter wonderland has emerged ”, we can read on the Hiverside website. He notes that the pop-up is a partnership between Riverside, Gray Goose Vodka and Cointreau.

The tables, chairs, benches, bar, DJ booth and even the piano at the Universide are all carved out of solid ice.

The entire ice bar was built and designed by Julien Doré, who is also at the origin of the Quebec ice hotel alias Hôtel de Glace.

You might expect an ice cream bar to be cold and, well, you’d be right. But Françoise Goulet-Pelletier of Narcity Quebec, who visited the Universide, said: “As the evening wore on, I felt more and more comfortable and my body gradually warmed up”. Goulet-Pelletier said the Hiverside team provides blankets and hand warmers for all patrons, and that there’s a heated section at the back of the bar where cold patrons can warm up.

It offers hot and cold cocktails, such as hot toddy, chocolate martini, cotton candy spritz, eggnog and mulled wine.

Overall, Goulet-Pelletier described the atmosphere as “very festive”. Imagine a DJ spinning behind an ice turntable, while people in winter clothes are partying.
