Free Electronic Music Shows Are Coming to Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles This Month

After two years of adapted programming, MUTEKThe International Festival of Electronic Music and Visual Arts is back in town August 23-28, and you can catch a glimpse of it for free.

Now with editions in five cities in the worldMUTEK promises 80 artistic performances with more than 100 artists from 21 countries at its flagship event in Montreal this year. Performances to understand that of the festival A/Visions (“large-scale audiovisual creations that merge images, sounds and technologies”) and “nocturnes” (series “dedicated to the more rhythmic and exciting forms of expression of electronic music” which “presents an original and immersive scenography”).

You have to pay to attend most shows. But fortunately, MUTEK is setting up a free outdoor stage for the first time at the Esplanade Tranquille in the Quartier des Spectacles. So you can get a little dose of AV magic without spending a dollar.

Every night from 5 p.m. — except August 23 when the free show starts at 6:30 p.m. — you can expect plenty of DJ sets from artists including Ramzilla, Vanyfox, Edna King and Cosmic JD.

This will be the last international summer festival at the Quartier des Spectacles in 2022.

MUTEK will donate 1% of the sales of each passport, pass and ticket to Planetair reforestation project. Students and groups benefit from reductions.

Plus, if you can’t afford to celebrate MUTEK at the Quartier des Spectacles, you can do it at Parc Jean-Drapeau! The festival takes off Piknic Electronik on August 28, and tickets are only $20.
