Downtown Barrie BIA “in Pink” as it Unveils New Branding
Lots of chatter and speculation on the last day about the pink finish added to the ramshackle Bank of Montreal building next to Meridian Place in downtown Barrie.
The downtown Barrie BIA ended speculation on Friday morning with the announcement of a new brand, website and identity.
Be bold. To be connected. Being seen. Be in downtown Barrie
“Painting the dilapidated Bank of Montreal building pink was a bold way to showcase our brand,” the BIA said in a statement. “With a bright but unknown future, this building has become a statement.”
The project is intended to evolve into a selfie and attraction destination, as well as a possible pink canvas for future public art or mural competitions.
And there is also a security aspect. “Transforming an underused historic space into a bright and welcoming focal point is an exciting initiative for our downtown area. This colorful new addition to our community is a great example of a creative solution to making vacant spaces safer and more functional and demonstrates the principles of crime prevention through environmental design. The Barrie Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community throughout our city, and I hope this initiative will inspire others to consider other improvements that can help make our safer community, ”said Barrie Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood.
Downtown Barrie BIA President Sergio Morales said the buzz created Thursday by the hot pink makeover was design.
“With a new constitution, a repayment agreement ratified by Meridian Place and a visionary new brand, the downtown Barrie BIA of the past is gone. We make a clear statement: we are bold and we do not back down. “
